Over the course of his career in cardiothoracic surgery, Dr. Alon Aharon has developed a distinguished reputation as an active clinician and researcher. During a decade of postgraduate studies in general and cardiothoracic surgery, Dr. Alon Aharon gained board certifications in several states, co-authored dozens of research papers, and eventually achieved academic positions at prestigious medical schools. Dr. Alon Aharon has also served in the U.S. Military as a Reserve Officer.

Since 2003, Dr. Alon Aharon has held the position of Attending Surgeon for the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Alon Aharon also works as a Supervising Physician for the Special Response and Tactics Team of Westchester County, New York. Dr. Alon Aharon has worked in this post since 2008, and he previously functioned in a similar assignment with the Special Weapons and Tactics Team of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Dr. Alon Aharon received his Doctor of Medicine from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, graduating at the top of his class in 1990. Previously, Dr. Alon Aharon studied biomedical engineering at Boston University.

Following his primary medical training, Dr. Alon Aharon completed residencies at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Alon Aharon then accepted an academic position at Vanderbilt University, succeeded by posts in Pennsylvania; Southern California; Ohio; Washington, D.C.; and currently, the New York Metropolitan Area.

Dr. Alon Aharon’s research interests range from immune mechanisms involved in transplantation surgery to the connection between gene therapy and skeletal muscle plasticity. As a researcher, Dr. Alon Aharon has served as Principal Investigator on studies involving the Acorn Cardiovascular, Inc.’s CorCap(TM) heart device and Scios Inc.’s nesiritide cardiac medication. He has been published in The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, and several other medical journals.

Certified by the American Board of Surgery, Inc. and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, Dr. Alon Aharon serves as a Surgeon and Assistant Clinical Professor at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and the Heart and Vascular Institute at Stamford Hospital in Connecticut.
